FFS people, think a little. This is a lovely image, but it’s clearly not a real image of the 2012 eclipse from orbit (think about that one for a second—the angles involved—oh, never mind). A ten second Google image search reveals that it originates from ~A4size-ska on DeviantArt, where the artist specifies that the planet and atmospherics were created in Terragen 2, and the (very well exposed) Milky Way image is from ESO/S. Brunier.

So it’s not a fake, it’s just an artists impression being passed around with no credit given and bad information added. Why? Beats me.

(…and now wondering what exactly the artist did to spoof the shadow effect in Terragen. That could come in handy for a few things I’m working on…)
